Tis’ the season for eating way too much and after the year we’ve had we definitely deserve a bit (or more) of comfort food. Thanksgiving may not be the same this year but that shouldn’t stop us from reveling in our favorite eats. Whether you’re having an intimate gathering with close friends and family or video chatting with your loved ones this holiday season, we have compiled a list of the best restaurants in the ‘Burgh to take comfort in.
Support a Black Owned Restaurant
Back in June we rounded up a list of all of the Black owned restaurants in Pittsburgh. As we continue to stand in solidarity with the black community, now is a better time than ever to support! Several of the restaurants on this list are offering special catering and take out options for Thanksgiving featuring some of the best comfort and soul food. From BBQ to Southern, Caribbean, Seafood, and much more, there’s bound to be a restaurant on this list that will warm your soul.
Comfort Food with a French Twist
The last thing you would expect to find in Dormont, PA is an authentic french bistro but Jean Louis located on West Liberty Ave is all of that and more. With a host of small intimate spaces in addition to a larger banquet room, Jean Louis is perfect for parties of any size and enjoying a delicious meal with loved ones while maintaining distance from others. Their menu includes classically French dishes whipped up by Chef Vincent such as Coq au Vin, slow cooked amish chicken breast, lardons, and oyster mushrooms in a red wine sauce; La Saint Jacques, pan seared scallops served with Yukon gold mashed potatoes; and of course freshly handmade pasta that’s made daily. Along with an extensive wine list and intricate cocktail service. Book your reservation today!
Pie, Oh My!
Is there anything more comforting than a fresh baked, hot, pie? With so many Pittsburgh bakeries to choose from we are encouraging you to stop by your local one for a delicious pie. Our current favorite is Grandview Bakery located in Mount Washington serving an unlimited array of different pies; English, Key Lime, French, Sugar Free-Cherry, Peanut Butter, Fresh Strawberry, Pumpkin, Pecan, and more. Did we mention that the view from Mount Washington isn’t too bad either?
Warm Up with a Big Bowl of Ramen
Ramen may not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering comfort foods but we think it’s a strong contender. As the weather continues to drop, warm yourself up with some takeout or delivery from Zen’s Noodle House located in the heart of Oakland. Seriously, don’t even look at the menu and just order the kimchi ramen, we promise you won’t regret it.
Comfort Meets Casual
Coop de Ville, is a fairly new Southern table, fast, casual restaurant and bar located in the Strip District offering up chicken in any and every way you can imagine. The menu consists of fried chicken dinners served with your choice of dark or white meat and rub seasoning (country/plain, nashville hot, k-town, garlic parm or dry bbq); sauces (roasted garlic ranch, honey mustard, hot honey and bbq); and one side (crinkle fries, seasoned crinkle fries, pimento mac n’ cheese, butter beans, spicy collard greens, and deviled egg potato salad). The menu also includes salads, quinoa bowls, and sandwiches. In addition to being a restaurant, Coop de Ville doubles as a one stop entertainment venue with a “duckpin bowling” alley that doesn’t require bowling shoes, arcade games, pool tables, ping pong, and more. All activities are first come first serve and Covid-19 mandates of social distancing and mask wearing are in full effect.
