The #1 History Museum in America continues to bring impressive programming to Pittsburghers and out-of-tahners. Beginning Thursday, August 20th, the Heinz History Center will offer extended hours on the third Thursday of each month featuring a cash bar, special tours, and more activities.

Perfect for an after-work visit, the extended evening hours will be from 5pm – 8pm on the third Thursday of each month. Visitors can grab a drink or mocktail from the cash bar while browsing six floors of award-winning exhibitions. Guided tours will also be available for patrons to do a deeper dive into the Pittsburgh stories found all throughout the museum.

One of the newest new exhibitions on display is Planet Ice: Mysteries of the Ice Ages. This immersive experience uncovers how the Ice Age shaped our world and its people. Many of us grew up with stories of the Ice Age, so this will be a nostalgic one to check out. See over 100 artifacts, models and more, plus full scale skeletal replicas of ice age animals like a mastodon and a giant beaver. There are even rare local discoveries connected to Western Pa.’s prehistoric past on loan from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and Bethany College.

Third Thursdays are included with regular admission and offer access to the History Center for the entire day (10am – 8pm). Ages 17 and under receive free admission, supported by the Kamin “Free for Kids” Initiative. Guests with an Allegheny County library card can also reserve a RAD Pass for complimentary admission.

Don’t forget to stop by The Museum Shop as your final stop to see classic and quirky gifts of all things Pittsburgh. The Museum Shop is open seven days a week during regular museum hours, as well as available online.

The Heinz History Center is Pittsburgh’s people museum, and as you can tell, it’s more than just a ketchup museum! For more information and to book your ticket in advance, visit heinzhistorycenter.org/events.
