The weather is getting colder, which means we’re starting to spend a little more time inside, which means we’re already thinking about holiday gifts. We always love shopping local for gifts, and that’s especially important to us this year. Which is why we have a few #ShopSmall gift guides coming for you! Today’s guide is for the yinzer in your life – whether they live here in Pittsburgh or have moved away.

Basket of Pittsburgh

If you’re the type who likes to delegate to the pros, Basket of Pittsburgh has been sending gift baskets across the country since 1984…so they are the pros! They support local companies and offer full-sized products from our favorite local brands in their baskets. We recommend their newest line – the PGH Box – for the yinzers in your life.

The outside of the box is covered in iconic Pittsburgh images like mascots, the Smiley cookie, and the Kauffman’s clock. The inside is filled with local goodies based on which box you choose! Things like Sarris Candies, Pittsburgh Popcorn, Parma Sausage, and various Pittsburgh-themed accessories or home decor. We would personally love if someone sent us the Snacky box, so….*hint*

PGH Apparel

To really understand PGH Apparel, you need to understand the importance of the ‘H’ in ‘Pittsburgh’. If you haven’t heard the history, go read it here and then come back…we’ll wait. “Pride”, “Glory”, and “Honor” embody the PGH Apparel brand, and the H is what gives them their identity. They challenge us to consider how we will represent the H.

One way to do that is to wear their clothing – which makes for great gifts! PGH Apparel carries clothing for children through adults, along with accessories like mugs, tumblers, car decals, dog collars, and so much more. They have two locations in Wilkins Township and Bethel Park, and their online store is always open.

garbella

If you’re looking for a gift that will strike a chord through memories, nostalgia, or a connection to a place or time, you should shop at garbella. The designs might be simple, but they bring that sense of home – whether you’re shopping for someone who lives down the road or your favorite yinzer who moved away. We love how so many of their products relate to food because the only thing we love more than Pittsburgh is food. We also love that their products are designed by a native Pittsburgher, who clearly understands what we love about our home.

Take these pierogi socks, for example. At $18, they’re a great stocking stuffer or perfect for that grab-bag gift when you aren’t sure who might end up with them. Much better than a generic gift like Bath and Body soaps! garbella sells a few sizes, so you could even make it a family gift. And, don’t worry, they have tonssss of other Pittsburgh gifts to pair with these socks!

Steel City Clothing

It doesn’t get any more local than Steel City Clothing. They’re a family-owned small business with a storefront located Downtown. Their designs are created at their warehouse in Oakland, and the clothing is printed at Ink Division in Braddock. So it’s the perfect place to shop for your favorite yinzer!

Steel City offers everything from sweatpants to t-shirts to stickers, and they have something for everyone in the family. They’ve also worked with other Pittsburgh-based businesses and icons to create totally unique items you won’t find anywhere else. Think Heinz, Pittsburgh Dad, Eat’n Park, Iron City Beer, and more. If you can’t make it Downtown, you can also visit their shop online!

Strip District Terminal

Finally, holiday shopping isn’t complete without the holiday shopping experience…and what better place to go than the Strip District when you’re shopping for a yinzer! Strip District Terminal will be hosting a Winter Window Display event – so stay tuned to their Instagram for more details. We’re planning on making a day of it…first will be coffee from La Prima or De Fer (or both, don’t judge!). Naturally, we’ll do some shopping at our favorite spots, like Yinzers, Roxanne’s, Mon Aimee, and Pennsylvania Libations. Then we’ll grab some Insta-worthy pics on the steps at Terminal and check out the window displays. We’ll wrap things up with some takeout and head home to warm up!
