March 8th was International Women’s Day, which is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Although women have come far, there is still much that we have to push for in order to achieve equity and equality. Currently only 40% of US businesses are women-owned. And luckily in Pittsburgh, we’re celebrating all month long and remembering to support wonderful local women-owned businesses.

One of my favorite local women-owned businesses in Pittsburgh is River Road Sprinkle Co.! Surrae Shield and Rachel Madden started River Road Sprinkle Co. last year. After not being able to find the perfect sprinkles, they decided to make their own hand-dyed magical versions that are available for home-bakers, as well as bakeries to purchase.

River Road Sprinkle Co. offers beautiful seasonal sprinkles and specials with the most adorable names and colorways. With sprinkle mixes like Steel City, Basket Bottom, Tribble Trouble, Right As Rainbow, and their current Make Your Mix finalist blends, you can’t go wrong.
