It’s still a little chilly outside. When it’s cold out and you get home for the day, sometimes that’s exactly where you want to stay! Takeout and delivery are especially convenient during the winter months. Enjoy your favorite restaurants from the coziness of your own warm home.
Here’s a roundup of 7 takeout spots we recommend this winter.
Bird on the Run (East Liberty)
Craving the perfect chicken sandwich? Look no further than Bird on the Run. This small chicken shop knows its specialty. They have a simple menu that focuses on what they do best — fried chicken. Pair your sandwich with fries, coleslaw, or beignets.
Station (East Liberty)
No need to sacrifice quality in having food delivered. Station in East Liberty is a more upscale option that still delivers. Try their vegan sloppy joe or pork schnitzel, homemade pasta, and finish the night off with a lavender pound cake.
Smiling Banana Leaf (Highland Park)
We can’t say enough good things about Smiling Banana Leaf. Widely considered to be one of the best Thai restaurants in the city, Smiling Banana has excellent pad thai, pineapple fried rice, curry, noodles, and noodle soups. They’re a perfect pick-up option if you live near the East End.
Max Mex (Shadyside & Oakland)
Tacos to go? Yes, please. Mad Mex has great guac, salsa, salads, tacos and burritos. On top of that, they have several vegan and vegetarian options. Be sure to try their namesake Mad Mex burrito (it’s square!).

People’s Indian (Bloomfield)
One of our favorite Indian takeout places is People’s Indian in Bloomfield. This place has consistently great tikka masala, naan, paneer, and curry. This is ideal comfort food for the colder months. People’s Indian offers food for pickup Monday through Saturday.
Kaya (Strip District)
Kaya’s Carribean-influenced food is just what you need during a cold winter snap. Their menu, inspired by the sea and sun, is like a mini-vacation to paradise. Pick up some jerked chicken, fish tacos, or a Cuban sandwich. Kaya is open late during the workweek, plus they offer brunch on Sundays.
Burgatory
Picture one of these heavenly burgers being delivered right to you. Not feeling a burger? Burgatory has great chicken, crab, and veggie sandwich options. They also have nachos, wings, and salads. Plus you can get a classic shake on the side. (Keep in mind, hard shakes are only available at the restaurant.)
