Who would’ve thought that Pittsburgh’s hottest seasonal pop-up bar wouldn’t be decked out in colorful tinsel or brightly-colored lights, but instead chic ski resort-inspired accents and warm, cozy decor?
From Richard DeShantz Restaurant Group comes Après Ski Bar, the latest — and possibly greatest — pop-up concept to grace Pittsburgh this holiday season.
Après Ski Bar is taking over the downtown space at 212 Sixth Street that typically houses Butcher and the Rye, a popular spot known for its small plates and large whiskey selection that has been mostly quiet since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
You can experience this uniquely “chill” concept through March (at least!), which means the doors (and reservation books) will be open all winter long. However, the holiday season is a great time to sneak away to this dreamy chalet and escape for some craft cocktails and delicious bites!
For those who haven’t heard the term “après-ski” before, it means “after skiing” and refers to the much-loved practice of enjoying a few rounds by a warm fire after a long day of hitting the slopes. However, we can happily report that no athletic activity is required to imbibe at Après!
Everything about the experience is curated, from seasonally-appropriate bites like fondues and foie gras to cocktails crafted with flavorful ingredients like spruce and sparkling bubbly. Think luxe, sumptuous, and cozy — just like you’d feel in beloved ski destinations like Vail and Aspen.
Earlier this month, the team behind Après Ski Bar announced the availability of a limited number of “Ski Pass” packages with priority reservations and a bottle of champagne — but they quickly sold out. If you weren’t lucky enough to get your hands on one, not to worry: you can make reservations on Yelp or by phone to make sure you can enjoy the vibes, and walk-ins are welcome as well.
Currently, Après Ski Bar is open Thursdays from 5PM-10:30PM and on Fridays and Saturdays from 5PM-11:30PM. Visit @butcherandtherye on Instagram for all the deets on how to book your experience!
