December 9th is National Pastry Day, and we love any excuse to celebrate anything, especially sweets. Pastries are technically anything with a flaky dough, like pie crust or puff pastry. We’re betting your mind automatically goes to La Gourmandine, Oakmont Bakery, and Prantl’s…and so does ours. But there are tons of other bakeries around Pittsburgh making pastries! We’ve rounded up a list of additional bakeries serving up all the best pastries in Pittsburgh. Think: pies, danish, tarts, and more!
Piebird
You already know how much we love Piebird, but we’re telling you again. Look for them at popup events around the city, get in touch to special order your favorite pie, or join their pie club!
The Pie Place
It’s called “The Pie Place” so you know we had to include it on our list! You can pick from more than 20 pie flavors…we’re betting you won’t be able to choose just one.
350 Bakery
It seems like just yesterday that we visited 350 Bakery on their opening weekend! You can still get your pastry fix there on weekends, or find their amazing puff tarts, handpies, and more at various coffee shops and restaurants around the city.
Jean Marc Chatellier’s French Bakery
One of the most iconic Pittsburgh pastry shops has to be Jean Marc Chatellier’s. They have every pastry you could crave…croissants, palmiers, danish, strudel, tarts, and more. We always go in thinking we’ll just pick one or two treats and leave with an entire box instead!
Madeleine Bakery and Bistro
Madeleine Bakery and Bistro is another one of our favorite pastry spots! Traditional croissants, chocolate croissants, and kougin amann…you can’t go wrong with any of them.
Food Glorious Food
Food Glorious Food is Highland Park’s hidden gem – although we already spilled the beans on them. You can find everything from pies to tarts, napoleons to strudel…and we’d like one of everything, please.
Five Points Artisan Bakeshop
Pastries made with the best butter, eggs, and local produce? We’re drooling over Five Points Artisan Bakeshop’s menu: sweet and savory croissants, danish, tarts, pies, and more. We’re going to need our stretchy pants.
Priory Fine Pastries
Priory Fine Pastries is definitely making Pittsburgh sweeter, one bite at a time! You probably know their cakes, cupcakes, and cookies…but you also need to try their pies. Make sure you give 24 hours notice before ordering one of their 11 classic flavors.
Prohibition Pastries
Prohibition Pastries puts a boozy twist on most of their baked goods, and we’re here for it. They have tons of pastries to pick from: breakfast pastries, pies and turnovers, pot pies, handpies, and, of course, sweet pastries.
Lola’s Eatery
The pastries at Lola’s Eatery are a fun surprise, because you have to check out their pastry case to see what they have! We definitely don’t creep on their Instagram on the regular to try to guess what they might be making next…ahem.
Gaby et Jules
You know and love the macarons from Gaby et Jules, but have you had any of their pastries? They bake all of the French classics, so you can always get the pastry you’re craving!
Pane e Pronto
Newcomer Pane e Pronto is already a favorite, and they’re making more than breads and Italian ready-to-eat meals! Make sure you pick up a danish or two when you visit…you won’t regret it.
