Executive chef Dave Racicot of The Commoner has designed a legendary spring brunch menu that will undoubtedly impress Mom on her special day. Selections like French toast with seasonal jam, avocado toast, and the caramelized pork belly sandwich are standouts, but what’s brunch without a beverage? Whether Mom likes to sip something sweet or savory, The Commoner’s brunch cocktail menu is unmatched! The traditional mimosa is always a hit alongside the Bloody Larry (a twist on the classic Mary) and the Aperol spritz. There are also artisanal selectionsl like “The Adventures of TinTin” that features St. Germain and sweet herbal flavors as well as the “Alright, Bud” that pairs Espolon Blanco and mezcal with blueberry lavender tea. Owned by local chocolatier Nancy Tannir, Tabbara Chocolates features a selection of handcrafted chocolates made with fine ingredients that are inspired by the flavors of Beirut, from where Tannir’s family originates. In this year’s Mother’s Day assortment, expect to find some of Tabbara’s classic flavors alongside unique flavors like elderflower with saffron ganache, kalamansi (a green citrus fruit) pate de fruit with kalamansi ganache, and even a raspberry and rose jelly with a white chocolate ganache! Oakland brassier Spirits & Tales will be featuring a decadent prix fixe menu on Mother’s Day, crafted by executive chef Chris Noonan to feature tons of brunch favorites that Mom will love! The meal begins with sharable warm cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. Then, enjoy three courses with plenty of options ranging from the brasserie’s famous French onion soup, smoked salmon toast, bananas foster French toast, and classic quiche Lorraine! Of course, dessert is a must – options inclde a trio of macarons, flourless chocolate truffle cake or a Basque cheesecake. There’s also a special prix fixe for the kiddos as well!

Black Radish Kitchen

This Mother’s Day, Black Radish Kitchen is partnering with Pittsburgh-based Basic Health International, which is a leading organization in the research, prevention, and treatment of cervical cancer in high-risk communities worldwide. A portion of the sales of their Mother’s Day packages will go toward furthering BHI’s work, so you can treat Mom to a delicious meal at home and contribute to a life-saving mission! This year’s menu serves six to eight and can be modified to suit vegetarian eaters as well. Square Cafe is one of the most popular brunch spots in the ‘Burgh, but it has more than earned it! On Mother’s Day weekend, you can treat Mom to some of their classics like the smoked salmon scramble, the lemon berry ricotta pancakes, or the Brussels sprout hash on top of cheesy grits! There will be additional specials for Mother’s Day announced throughout the week leading up to the holiday, so keep an eye on their social media.
