One of our favorite places in the greater Pittsburgh area is Sewickley. Between the upscale local boutiques and the Hallmark feels around the holidays, Sewickley is a picture-perfect borough just north of the city. Our latest obsession in this neighborhood is Mediterra Café, a bakery, café and market with artisan breads and speciality coffee brews.

Mediterra is a brick-and-mortar location of the local bakery Mediterra Bakehouse, and it’s located on Beaver Street right in the heart of Sewickley. When you walk into the cafe, you may be overwhelmed by all the olive oils, balsamic vinegars, jams, sauces, and pastas that line the walls.

They also have a wide variety of cheeses. It’s a great place to stock up on artisan products while you wait for a latte.

Mediterra is known first and foremost for the bakery. They bake beautiful homemade breads that will make you feel like you’re sitting in a Parisian café. Try the steel city sourdough or the sesame semolina.

Mediterra offers a variety of baguettes and speciality breads. You can also satisfy your sweet tooth with their cakes, cookies, cupcakes and tarts.

Once you’ve passed by the market products and bakery display, you can get in line to order from the full menu for breakfast or lunch. You can’t go wrong with the quiche of the day. They also have a breakfast sammie, baked french toast, and avocado toast.

Off the lunch menu, you can order pizza by the slice and a variety of salads and sandwiches with locally sourced produce. It’s all delicious and beautiful — you really can’t go wrong.

So whether you’re in the mood for lunch, coffee, or just want to pick up a few basics from their market, Mediterra should be a place to stop on your next trip to Sewickley.
