While we can’t explore Southwestern PA farms right now like we normally do, several farms and businesses are putting together pick-up grocery baskets so you can still enjoy fresh produce and a scenic drive.
Soergel Orchards, American Natural, and Trax Farms are offering contactless grocery options. These are a great way to shop local and enjoy fresh fruits and veggies, all from the comfort of your car.
Essential Box — Soergel Orchards
Soergel Orchards, known for its picturesque annual fall festival, is putting together Essential Boxes that include everything you need for a grocery run. They’ve offered a few different types of boxes, but a typical basket includes milk, eggs, produce, food for a few meals, and a treat from their bakery. Soergel’s recently started offering a produce-only box. The food is fresh and locally sourced, plus it’s a scenic drive out to the orchard.
You order the box online, drive through the farm to pick it up, and they place everything in your trunk. The process is super easy and totally contactless. It’s a nice alternative to heading to your local grocery store!
These boxes usually sell out within minutes, so if you’re interested, follow Soergel Orchards on Facebook to see what the daily box includes, when they go on sale, and what pick-up time is for the following day.
Fresh Eats — American Natural
Another convenient option for fresh grocery pick-up comes from American Natural. Pittsburgh locals are offered grocery boxes (including wine!) that can be picked up without leaving your car. American Natural has six different locations throughout the greater Pittsburgh area.
American Natural lets you customize your order a bit more than Soergel’s. You can choose fresh kits like the “Rise & Shine” that includes bagels, bacon, eggs and orange juice. Or the “DIY Lunch” with all the sandwich fixings. Add sides to your order like pastas and rolls, or even dessert.
For a farm-fresh Fresh Eats box, place an order by 6 p.m. on Tuesday to be picked up on Friday. You pay online, and they’ll load your trunk with your grocery order.
Curbside Pick-Up — Trax Farms
Trax checks all the boxes with their curbside pick-up. Check all the fresh grocery items that you need using their order form. You can order grocery items like lunch meats, cheeses, fresh produce, and snack food. Trax also offers pre-made items like salads, sandwiches, and soups. (Just because we’re all grocery shopping more doesn’t mean we need to cook every day, right?)
Trax Curbside Pick-Up is currently available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check out their website for more updates.
Beyond grocery items, Trax Farms also has beautiful flowers in store right now. Get your trunk and your yard filled with spring-colored blooms!
