My iced coffee lovers where ya at?? It’s often a running joke on social media that no matter if it’s 80° or 18° there’s never a bad time for iced coffee. Well, I’m here to say those people are right! These local coffee shops around the city are serving up iced coffees of many different flavors and styles year-round!
Espresso a Mano
With their coffee sourced from Coava Coffee on the West Coast, Espresso a Mano brings incredible specialty coffee beverages to the streets of Lawrenceville. Heads up, all their beverages are made with double shots of espresso for an extra kick! The iced beverages you can order here are the basic Americano, latte, mocha, and cold brew. The coffee alone here has incredible flavor, but feel free to add a flavor shot or milk/dairy substitute. You can even add extra espresso if the double shot it comes with isn’t enough.
Coffee Tree Roasters
If you’re looking for just about any flavor of iced coffee beverage, Coffee Tree Roasters is your jam. With over 25 different flavors, you can pretty much make your perfect drink. Not to mention the milk substitutes including soy, almond, and oat milk. My recommendation is the Lavender Oat Milk Iced Latte, WOW. Luckily to score some of this delish iced coffee you likely won’t have to go too far from home as there are 5 locations of Coffee Tree around the Burgh (Mt. Lebo, Fox Chapel, Pleasant Hills, Shadyside, and Squirrel Hill). Whatever your mood is, they will not let you down. Their menu includes iced espresso, Americanos, mochas, frozaccinos (blended iced coffee), and even a decaf cold brew!!! As someone who can get down with some decaf coffee, I will tell you it is very difficult to find a decaf cold brew. So if you’re like me, Coffee Tree will become a staple in your life.
La Prima
This well-established Pittsburgh coffee company knocks every drink out of the park. La Prima has such fantastic blends that other coffee shops like Bean Thru even use their blends. With several locations in the Burgh and its original location in the Strip District, La Prima is a must, especially for your Saturday and Sunday rounds in the Strip. They have a handful of flavor syrups, but honestly, the coffee is so delicious you might want it black or just with a splash of cream. I ordered the iced vanilla latte with oat milk and it was AMAZING. You can also order iced Americanos, iced cappuccinos, and cold brew here.
Bean Thru
Bean Thru is the perfect quick stop, drive-thru stand for iced coffee any time of the day! With both of its drive-thru locations open 6-6, it’s an easy stop on your way to work or on the way home when you need a pick-me-up. Conveniently located on Route 8 and Ohio River Blvd, Bean Thru hits some major commute routes. You will quickly fall in love with their menu of staples plus their ever-changing specialty flavors! In the past, we’ve seen the Milky Way Iced Mocha, Chips Ahoy Iced Latte, Strawberry Shortcake Latte, and more. The list truly goes on. My ultimate favorite has to be the Cinnabon Iced Latte, a little bit of coffee, a little bit of a chai feel with the cinnamon. One of the best things about this place is that they have pumpkin YEAR ROUND. If you’re in the mood for a frozen coffee, order one of their Chillers for a coffee milkshake vibe, you won’t regret it. Bean Thru will have you begging them to open a location near your house.
The Abbey on Butler
If you’ve never been to the Abbey, you are missing out! This Lawrenceville establishment is a bistro, pub, and most importantly an adorable coffee shop. With a patio outside and an indoor space with cozy book reading vibes, this is the perfect spot to order your iced coffee to stay. The Abbey serves up classic iced coffees like Americanos, lattes, and cold brews with almond, soy, oat, and coconut milk. Something fun to keep your eye open for is the featured coffee lattes. One of the most picturesque featured lattes I’ve seen is the Cereal Milk iced latte (pictured). Espresso, milk, sweet cereal syrup, and marshmallows to top it off create this sweet treat.
Delanie’s Coffee
A Southside staple, Delanie’s Coffee is the perfect place to stop for an iced coffee before shopping small at East Carson Street’s vintage shops and unique businesses. If you’re looking to stay for a bit, they have a loft and some outdoor seating to enjoy a beverage with friends. I couldn’t talk about Delanie’s without mentioning the House Favorite. This specialty coffee is made up of 24-hour cold brew, condensed milk, brown sugar syrup, and cream over coffee iced cubes. Their current featured drink is their Rose Latte with housemade rose syrup might I add. I ordered mine iced and it was fantastic. It had the perfect blend of coffee and delicate rose taste!
Hopefully, all this talk of iced coffee gets you prepared to beat the heat coming our way in Pittsburgh! Even if it stays cold through April in true Pittsburgh fashion, no matter the weather we will iced coffee together!
