What better way to enjoy winter than by checking out the ice house in Market Square? The 6th Annual Dollar Energy Fund Cool Down for Warmth powered by Dynergy returns to Downtown on January 23 and 24. The coolest thing about it? Aside from the awesome ice house, Cool Down for Warmth raises funds and awareness for those who can’t afford heat-related utility services.

The house of ice is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before! Marvel and be amazed at the 1,000 square-foot multi-room ice structure, which includes an attached garage, Dormont Appliance kitchen, and counters carved from ice. There’s also a Citizen’s Bank Ice ATM–and the house will be featured in a RE/MAX Select Realty real estate listing. And don’t forget to check out the Dunkin’ selfie wall! Where else can you experience something like this?

If you want to warm up, head over to the Bowls for Warmth Soup Tasting presented by BNY Mellon (11:30a.m.-1:30p.m. daily), where you can try soup from 20 different restaurants. You’ll receive 3 hearty cups of soup, a bottle of water and an Eat’n Park Smiley cookie in exchange for a $10 donation.

The first Cool Down for Warmth event was held in 2015, since then the event has raised $840,000 to benefit more than 2,400 households in Western Pennsylvania.

Chad Quinn, chief executive officer of Dollar Energy Fund, spoke about how the event brings awareness to the region. “We bring Cool Down for Warmth to Market Square to draw attention to the many households in this region who struggle to afford the basic costs of the heat-related utility service,” Quinn said. “Each year, this event serves as a way for us to spread the warmth to our neighbors in need. We encourage the community to support Dollar Energy Fund and this event by visiting the ice house, enjoying soup during Bowls for Warmth, and making a contribution to benefit this cause to ensure no one is at risk of facing a Pittsburgh winter without utility service.”

And there are giveaways too, of course while supplies last! You can receive one of the many giveaways including gloves courtesy of Dynergy, a free coffee or donut coupon at Dunkin’, appetizer voucher from McCormick & Schmick’s, a Chick-Fil-A sandwich coupon and $10 off any Moe’s mobile order. Friday at noon features the University of Pittsburgh basketball ticket giveaway for the February 5 game against Georgia Tech!
