When it opened in 2022, Atithi Studios aimed to bridge art and community to the growing Sharpsburg area. Atithi, which is Bengali for “guests,” is an ode to Rabindranath Tagore’s story about a boy who chooses the life of a wanderer. It’s a gift to the artist community of Pittsburgh. Atithi’s mission is to build a happier community through engagement with the arts.
The three-story space offers a welcoming environment for artists to thrive and for the community to come together, share and be inspired. The community-driven cultural center is dedicated to promote arts, music and cultural exchange. Founded by Sukanta Nag, Atithi Studios provides a welcoming space for individuals of all backgrounds to come together and celebrate the richness of diversity through various cultural events and programs.

Atithi Studios Turns 2!
This summer, Atithi Studios hosted a community-wide party to celebrate two years in Sharpsburg. The birthday party event featured a vibrant array of music, food, art, and activities, showcasing the creative spirit Atithi Studios has fostered across the region.
Featured guests included acclaimed Pittsburgh photographer George Lange (who showcased his new book, Picturing Joy), Jovina Vaswani with live poetry readings, and Atithi-based artists, Mary Mastern-Willams and Samantha Cortese who demoed live painting sessions.
“We are honored the region has welcomed Atithi over these past two years,” said Sukanta Nag, owner, Atithi Studios. “Atithi is translated in the Bengali language to, ‘guest,” and we are so proud to call Sharpsburg our home and offer a respite for all people as they seek connection and community.”
