There’s a sweet new music venue in town, and it’s booking national acts faster than Lizzo rising up the charts in 2019. Truth hurts, we needed something more exciting. And the newly renovated Roxian Theater is all the excitement! Located in McKees Rocks, the awesome 1400 seat venue opened this past May.
A little history of the Roxian Theater–the venue opened up as a vaudeville playhouse in 1929. In 1980 the name was changed to The Emerald Room, which ran until closing its doors in 2003. This led to a 9 million dollar community revival project. There was never a panic at the Roxian, they always had high, high hopes. The newly renovated theater can only mean great things ahead for music fans.
So what does this mean for the scene?! Simply put, the Roxian is going to bring in many national acts that might normally skip through Pittsburgh. How many times have you seen your favorite artists tour dates, and the Burgh wasn’t on the list? Yeah, it’s a frustrating moment. So oh-oh,oh-oh,oh-oh,oh-oh,oh-oh, you need to calm down, because having a new state of the art theater will bring more acts around–bands have the option to play at an amazing venue with a large crowd.
The layout of the Roxian favors music fans–the floor is general admission, with no seats, allowing everyone to get close to the stage. If you prefer a more comfortable concert experience, the balcony seats 500 people. Everybody wins!
And how about the concert calendar? When the show ends, there’s still plenty ahead. Like Katy says, just because it’s over doesn’t mean it’s really over, because the calendar is packed with a punch. Some of the upcoming shows include Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, Motion City Soundtrack, and more. Want something really crazy different? Reality star Stassi Shroeder of Vanderpump Rules brings her podcast to town in October, while Napoleon Dynamite stars Jon Heder and Efren Ramirez make a stop in December for a wild Q+A.
Oh, and another fantastic thing–free parking! Don’t get all stressed while finding a place to park. Check out the lot behind the Roxian on Furnace Street Extension. So clutch!
Stay up to date with the Roxian’s upcoming events!
