Humane Animal Rescue

Caring for animals and inspiring communities, the Humane Animal Rescue is one of the largest animal welfare organizations in PA, featuring two shelters (East End Campus on Hamilton Avenue, North Side Campus on Western Avenue) and a wildlife rehabilitation center (Verona Road). Due to COVID, adoptions are by appointment only. But you can call ahead of time to discuss the animals you’re interested in and schedule an appointment for a meet and greet. Your new best friend is waiting! 

Kitty Queen Cat Rescue

No cat left behind is their motto! Proudly serving communities in West Allegheny County, Kitty Queen Cat Rescue is a no-kill, cat and kitten organization dedicated to helping homeless, unwanted, and special needs cats find loving homes. Follow the easy steps and adoption form here! 

Animal Friends

Although they are closed for walk-in adoptions, their adoption team will be working with potential adopters through phone calls and scheduled appointments to complete adoptions. Located on Camp Horne Road, Animal Friends are “a premier companion animal rescue community, committed to promoting the animal-human bond and nurturing relationships with companion animals which are guided by compassion.” Submit an application and speak with their adoption counselor!

Merlin’s Safe Haven Cat Rescue

Merlin’s provides for the rescue, care and placement of cats that have been abandoned, neglected, abused or which cannot be kept by their previous owners. They are placed exclusively as indoor family pets. And all cats are currently kept in foster homes. The Merlin’s volunteers are very knowledgeable about cats and can help an adopting family make the best decision! The rescue is operated completely by volunteers and runs solely on private donations. 

Foster Cat

Foster Cat is a rescue and placement agency for homeless cats and kittens. The all-volunteer non-profit organization is dedicated to the proposition that all cats and kittens deserve safe permanent homes. You can be part of the lifesaving team and give cats a second chance! Foster Cat provides training and support, medications, food and litter as needed, and absorbs all vet expenses associated with the care of kitties. Also check out the adoptable cats and kittens!
