Strange times, these. We all cope differently. For me, there are days when I deal with the uncertainty of this unprecedented situation through unprecedented productivity: My house is cleaner than it’s ever been! Other days, Netflix and snacks are the move. LOTS of snacks.
Life feels like it’s on hold, but yet, it hasn’t stopped – it can’t stop! We can’t just press pause on all interactions with the world around us. In some cases, the lifeblood of small businesses depends on us taking action. Pittsburgh has embodied resiliency in the past, and we shall blossom again.
Before this introductory rant takes on too preachy and noble a tone, I’ll admit it right now: I’m using #SupportSmallBusinesses as an excuse to spend money, yo! I miss looking cute and going out, and the second I get to experience human companionship other than my immediate family, I plan to look AHMAZING with some new earrings, you feel me? Or, if I’m going to be trapped in my house all day, I NEED that cute new area rug, no? Here are some of the best local places you can support right now, just by whippin’ out that credit card and heading to their website.

While I’m buying that new area rug, why not throw in a ceramic lamp or luxurious bouquet of dried flowers? THESE LOCAL BUSINESSES NEED ME, OK?
Wellness
Though admittedly, I do enjoy the slowed pace of life at home, setting humor aside: things are a bit stressful right now. No product can wash away the anxiety that comes with this time of uncertainty (may we recommend deep breaths, Facetiming a friend or family member, petting a dog/cat…), but essential oils, soaps and lotions for a spa night, or CBD items from these wonderful PGH shops certainly wouldn’t hurt:

Grocery Items
Something about being home all day makes me feel more inclined to indulge in the finer things in life. Rather than relying fully on my rushed trips to the grocery store or using Instacart, I’ve tried to support local businesses, and in doing so, I feel all the more ~fancy~. Home-baked bread dipped in infused olive oil? Yes, please. A fresh pot of small-batch, fresh roasted De Fer coffee? Mhmm.
Please – Let us know about any local, online shops we missed in the comments! How have you been supporting local businesses?
For clothes, accessories and home decor, we love Songbird Artistry, across the street from Children’s hospital. https://www.songbirdartistry.com/
Lots of unique handcrafted items, including fun Pittsburgh themes. They have mail order and are safe and responsible with masking and distancing. The stained glass art and knitting lessons are awesome, too. https://www.songbirdartistry.com/
