The next time you’re heading Northbound on Route 28 instead of driving past Blawnox be sure to take the exit onto Freeport Rd and check out some of this small town’s cool stops. Here are several reasons to make Blawnox your next detour.

Curbside Coffeehouse

Since 2008 Curbside Coffeehouse has been caffeinating and satiating those in the know with their delicious brews, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. They are a scratch-made kitchen so you don’t always know what they’ll have for you that day, but you best be sure it will be dee-ee-licious. Their big organic veggie salads, Buddha bowls, and quiche are fan faves along with their monstrously-sized desserts.

Old Thunder Brewing

New in town is Old Thunder Brewing, with a decent selection of high alcohol hitters and some lower ABV session options. The beer menu tends towards IPAs so all yinz IPA fans will be pretty hoppy with the selection, but there are options for lovers of different IBU levels -like the Gold Leaf Phantom lager.

N Stuff Music

If you’re a musician you are likely already well aware of N Stuff Music. They’ve been keeping the ‘Burgh’s music scene sounding great since 1968. If you need any music equipment or repairs they are the place to head. Even non-musicians should stop in just to check out all their drool-worthy guitar options. Rock on n’at at N Stuff.

Moondogs Pub

Say “Blawnox” to any musician or blues fan and the first place that will come to mind is Moondogs Pub. Since 1990 they’ve been hosting live performances by blues and rock musicians and have even been recognized nationally for just how well they support live music. For a “This ain’t Starlake” music experience, check out one of their upcoming live shows.

Starlite Lounge

From the same man who brings you food for the soul music at Moondogs, treat yourself to food for the body at his Starlite Lounge. Featured on “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives” their best known for pierogies, stuffed pepper soup, and chicken diablo. Oh, and of course they’re also known for their music – like the iconic Bluegrass Open Jam on Tuesday nights.

Maenam Thai

What Nicky’s Thai Kitchen is to the North Side, Maenam Thai is to Blawnox. If you’re a fan of Thai food it’s not to be missed. Find you’re go-to fave or explore a new dish and discover Maenam Thai’s winning take on thai.
