Spring is finally just around the corner, and as more and more of the city goes green – either with fresh blooms and returning plant life or just as part of Pittsburgh’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations – so can your beverage of choice!

Many of Pittsburgh’s artisan coffee and tea shops offer matcha lattes, a drink made with Japanese green tea powder and a milk of your choice, enjoyed hot or cold and sometimes flavored with a sweet syrup.

We’ve made a list of our top seven spots in the city where you can get a matcha latte and enjoy its lower-caffeine antioxidant benefits – or just the tasty flavor — in time for spring.

Mosaic Leaf

Mosaic Leaf Matcha Tea Bar is the physical outpost of local matcha brand Ultra Matcha, a small batch seller that focuses on holistic energy and wellness. In addition to matcha lattes and tea blends, Mosaic Leaf premiers new blends and infusions in store for its audience of dedicated matcha lovers. Try a tea-infused mocktail or kombucha on tap, and then check out their artisan matcha blends and tools to make your own Ultra Matcha at home!

Margaux

East Liberty newcomer Margaux may be getting some attention for its gorgeous cocktails and European-inspired sharable plates, but we recommend stopping by bright and early for a handcrafted matcha latte and an aesthetically-pleasing breakfast. Matcha goes beautifully with sweet or savory, so whatever you pick, you can’t go wrong.

Dobrá Tea

The vibes at Dobrá Tea’s Bohemian-style tearoom are truly unmatched, and so is their matcha. Many matcha fans have said that Dobrá’s is their favorite in the ‘Burgh, whether you’re sipping some traditional tea or enjoying a creamy iced matcha latte with boba. Pro tip: if you already know you love matcha, try expanding your palette with Dobrá’s wide range of specialty teas!

Adda Coffee & Tea House

Adda Coffee & Tea House is all about “conversation, community, and connection,” so if you like to enjoy a matcha latte somewhere you can relax and take time for yourself, stop at one of Adda’s four Pittsburgh locations and enjoy one of their expertly-crafted beverages. Right now, their special is a “matcha blush” iced latte with a springy berry-hibiscus syrup – perfect for welcoming warm days and fresh blooms!

Coop de Ville

When most people think of the popular Strip District spot Coop de Ville, they probably either think about the killer fried chicken or the rows and rows of nostalgic pinball machines and arcade games. However, the La Colombe coffee bar is just as impressive! Coop de Ville’s matcha latte – available hot or iced – is made with Spirit Tea matcha and evidently goes well with a house-made almond croissant.

Commonplace Coffee

Pittsburgh-based cafe chain Commonplace Coffee serves a matcha latte that’s all about helping you feel your best! With less caffeine than their regular coffee beverages and packed with antioxidants, Commonplace’s matcha latte is an indulgence that’s both a mood boost and a healthy treat. Plus, it’s vegan when enjoyed with oat milk – a popular recommendation at Commonplace.

Mediterra

Known for shaking things up behind the coffee bar, Mediterra’s standard matcha latte is already a delicious drink, whether you prefer things hot or cold. However, it’s their seasonal flavored matcha lattes that are not to be missed, like this iced cherry matcha latte that was a February-only special. Act fast when you see a new flavor drop on social media, because they won’t be around forever!
