It may not be made in PGH, but Grand River Cellars is so extraordinary that we had to tell you all about it. The breathtaking winery is located in Ohio’s Grand River Valley Region. It’s only a two hour drive from Pittsburgh—perfect for a day trip! So, grab a friend and hit the road for your very own wine country getaway.

Grand River Cellars

On Lake’s Erie’s shore, fertile soil paired with the area’s climate creates perfect conditions for growing grapes. Grand River Cellars features astounding wines such as Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet-Franc, and Pinot Grigio made from grapes grown on the property. Looking for something unique? Their specialty wines include Merlot Reserve, Vidal Blanc Ice Wine, and Chardonnay Reserve. Try a glass of Blackberry Merlot made with all naturally flavored products, no sugar added, and no artificial sweeteners. However, there’s nothing better than kicking back with a refreshing Sangria. Their current summer hit is the “Slim Sangria”, which is more fruity and refreshing. If you like yours sweet, that’s okay …there is something for everyone!

Speaking of sweet, have you tried ice wine? Ice wine is rare around the country because you need ideal cold temperatures. Grapes are harvested while frozen, leading to a very sweet dessert wine. According to Grand River Cellars, “Grape production is often at its prime allowing for production of these premium varietal wines.” Ice wine has long been referred to as the nectar of the Gods.
