Las Velas Mexican Restaurant is the first restaurant of owner and chef David Montanez, who was born and raised in Mexico City before moving to the Riviera Maya where his cooking was further influenced by the local cuisine and culture. Montanez also owns and operates Madero Cantina in Murrysville. Located in downtown Pittsburgh in historic Market Square, Las Velas enjoyed a full year of operation before being partially destroyed by a fire in December of 2010. Re-opened in the summer of 2011, it includes a fun atmosphere, excellent bar options, a view of the Square, and a flavorful menu of recipes inspired by both Mexico City and the Riviera Maya!
Madero Cantina (Murrysville & North Huntingdon)

Madero Cantina is the suburban restaurant chain of David Montanez, the owner of Las Velas in downtown Pittsburgh’s Market Square. The menu at Madero closely resembles that of Las Velas, full of fresh, flavorful authentic Mexican dishes inspired by his homes of Mexico City and the Riviera Maya. Madero is open for lunch and dinner daily. They have a full bar featuring a wide selection of Mexico’s best tequila!
