Move over Hollywood, Pittsburgh is the real home of the stars. Especially those outer space ones.

With Carnegie Mellon University, the Moonshot Museum, Astrobotic, Carnegie Science Center, and more robotics than Star Wars, it’s not rocket science that we just had to launch a SpaceBurgh festival.

On a mission to blend science and fun, SpaceBurgh is a one-day event of astronomy, space science, robotics, and science fiction. It takes over Market Square on Saturday, October 19th from 12pm – 8pm.

This free, all ages festival is one of exploration and discovery. SpaceBurgh celebrates Pittsburgh’s contribution to all things space – with engaging activities, interactive exhibits, and stellar presentations. The fields of robotics, astronomy, and space science are ever-advancing fields, and Pittsburgh is at the forefront making tomorrow’s dreams a reality today.

SpaceBurgh Activities + Experiences

Have a blast as you get hands-on with science, technology, and a telescope. Nerd out with Robotics Demonstrations by CMU, K-12 programs, and Astrobotic. Get your geek on with a real-life NASA astronaut as NASA Astronaut Woody Hoburg chats with the Mars Robotics Association then signs autographs! Construct and test a vehicle, plus see how different objects fare in the vertical wind tunnel with Carnegie Science Center.

Gravitate towards the demonstrations from Allegheny Observatory, Moonshot Museum, and University of Pittsburgh to discover the wonders of the universe. Start swooning sci-fi fans because there will also be plenty of sci-fi panels and presentations on fictional universes and their impact on real-world science. Oh, and naturally there’s a lightsaber battle area. (PS. Cosplay is encouraged so “That’s one small step for man, one giant LARP for mankind.”)

Space itself might be lacking in atmosphere, but SpaceBurgh has plenty to go around. You’ll get to take in live music and delight in some gastronomy, along with the astronomy, as you enjoy delicious food and space-themed brews from local craft brewers.
