Relish the moment at this year’s Picklesburgh! It’s going to be a dil-ightfull three days of pickle paradise. The popular festival began in 2015, and has since been voted by USA Today as the #1 “Best Specialty Food Festival” in America. That’s a big dill! Here are the top things to know!

The destination for all things pickled expands. Aside from the Roberto Clemente Bridge, the festival will extend to the riverside lanes of Ft. Duquesne Boulevard between Stanwix and 7th Streets. There’s more vendors with larger booths, along with seating and tables areas. 

Home Pickling How-to Lessons

Learn everything about home pickling at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Demo area. There’s how-to lessons by chefs, vendors, and experts like Pittsburgh Post-Gazette food writer Gretchen McKay. According to picklesburgh.com, the “demonstrations will feature a broad range of DIY recipes ranging from the simple home pickling of traditional favorites like cucumbers, dilly beans, kimchi, and watermelon rinds, to creating fruit shrubs for creative cocktailing.” And for the kids–the Li’l Gherkins KidsPlay area features souvenir arts and crafts.

New this year–the first-ever chocolate covered pickled Oreo. And wait for it….pickle cheeseburger pierogies! You can also check out a wide selection from local restaurants which include everything from small-batch pickled vegetables to chef-driven house-cured ingredients. And don’t forget a selfie with the popular 35-foot inflatable Heinz Pickle balloon! 

Pickle Flavored Drinks and Live Music

Wigle Whiskey’s Eau de Pickle won the 2019 National Innovation Award from the American Craft Spirits Association. You can try the award winning drink at the fest, along with limited edition pickle beers from Southern Tier Brewing and Great Lakes Brewery. They sold out last year on the first day! Enjoy the drinks with live music all weekend long, representing every genre!

Pickle Juice Contest
