Summer is in full swing and filled with warm-weather events. Events that are perfect for any budget because they’re free! Though we have some major summer traditions that are free to attend like Picklesburgh, Jam on Walnut, and more, here are a few unique ones to consider when making plans this sunny season.

Movie Night on the Lawn at Hazelwood Green

Hazelwood Local prides itself as a hub for community activities at Hazelwood Green. They’re bringing back Movie Night on the Lawn with Row House Cinema. Bring your camping chairs, lightweight blankets, and other comfy chill-out necessities. Bring along friends and family for a free screening of popular movies.

On Friday, July 14th, expect Coco with a pre-performance by the Mariachi International Band. On Friday, August 18th, come dressed as a Star Wars character for a screening of STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. For some extra pre-show fun, shop from some local vendors and get a bite at food trucks and vendors.

Princess in the Park: Little Mermaid & Island Princess

In collaboration with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and Schenley Plaza, bring the entire family out for FREE Kids Day: Princess in the Park, featuring the Island Princess and Little Mermaid!

This fun-filled, enchanted afternoon is free, but guests must RSVP to ensure they have enough craft supplies. This event takes place on July 9th from 12pm – 4pm at Schenley Plaza near the carousel. Guests will have the chance to meet real-life princesses who are sharing their favorite fairy tales with a dynamic story-time experience!

Volunteer Workday: Trail-Building with the Allegheny Land Trust

Want to do some good AND get a workout while in the great outdoors? Make a memory that will last a lifetime by trail building with the Allegheny Land Trust.

On July 19th from 6pm – 8pm, wind down the day by trailblazing the way with some shovels in Girty’s Woods. They are hosting free events all summer long, so be sure to check out their Instagram for more updates!

Dog Days of Summer 2023

Enjoy the Dog Days of Summer at various locations like South Park, North Park, Harrison Hills Park, and Byce Park. Spend some splash time with your favorite, four-legged and furry best friend!

All events at select locations are from 6pm – 8pm in the park’s off-leash dog area. Be sure to follow Allegheny County Parks on Facebook for cancellations due to weather, plus other summer updates!
