Hey Yinzers! Have you heard the news?! There is finally an incredible space in Downtown Pittsburgh to drink, eat, play games, and most importantly, GOLF! Five Iron Pittsburgh combines the concepts of a trendy space to grab a brew/cocktail, with a casual sports bar environment for the perfect blend of fun for all ages. Open daily, this golf simulator and bar welcomes golfers of all skill levels to join in on the activities. Not super into golfing? Go and enjoy the free table games such as ping pong, pool, shuffleboard, and more!
Five Iron is tucked under 2 PPG Place, where the old food court was. Access is from Forbes Avenue around the corner from City Works. Once inside, you’ll either take the elevator or stairs down to the check-in where you can select your clubs for the simulators. You’ll be greeted by a stunning mural that reads “Do what you LOVE.” After you check in and get ready to go with your clubs, you will be directed to one of 11 custom-designed TrackMan golf simulators. While you’re waiting your turn to golf or grabbing a drink at the bar, you are able to watch current sporting events on their 12 widescreen TVs and TV wall.
Now let’s get into some of the specifics of the simulators. We had the opportunity to do a walkthrough of the facility with Assistant General Manager, Alex, who gave us ALL the deets on how high-end this experience truly is. Five Iron’s technology provides Pittsburghers with the opportunity to use the same technology and courses (200+) that the pros use!
Looking to improve your game? Five Iron has several opportunities to do just that. Golf lessons, memberships, and leagues are just some ways to help your overall game. Rule number one is don’t feel intimidated! Golf lessons are available for individuals or groups of all skill levels from as early as 6 am to closing. The experienced instructors at Five Iron Golf will not only assist you with your game but also provide precise data and video analysis to help with improvements!
Memberships are another way to up your golf game. If you’re planning on really putting in some time at Five Iron, this is a great option for you! For $240/month, you have full access to off-peak sim rentals at no additional charge (6a-4p Monday through Friday), free bag storage, shower access, plus a 20% off discount on lessons, drinks at the bar, and peak sim rentals.
Leagues are yet another way to get better at golf while having fun with your crew! The leagues at Five Iron Pittsburgh are run over the course of seven weeks on Monday and Tuesday nights. All you need is a squad of four. At the end of each season, if you’re the local champs, you get to face off virtually against the champions of the other Five Iron locations for a shot at being the Five Iron National Champs!
Working on your short game? Try out Puttview! This amazing technology gets down to the nitty-gritty of putting and gives you data-driven results in real-time. Some features of Puttview are speed animation, contour lines, speed corridor, and swing guide.
As you can see Five Iron is no joke when it comes to golfing. They have multiple different ways a novice or an expert can enjoy their space. With fun games you can challenge your friends at in the simulators, to taking your shot as league champions, Five Iron truly achieves its mission to create an inclusive environment. In just four short years, this company has expanded from its original location in New York City to having seven current locations with two more on the way!
The locations all have a fun and comfortable vibe, as can be seen in the pictures of the Pittsburgh location. To add a little touch of Pittsburgh, they even had the mural below of Pittsburgh local and golf legend, Arnold Palmer, commissioned by a local artist, Camerin Nesbit. Around the rest of the building, you’ll find fun neon light phrases and other murals perfect for all of the photo ops. Our favorite is “Talk Birdie to Me.” Remember, you don’t have to be a golf expert or a golfer at all to hit up the two bars and full-service restaurant. Trust us when we say this is going to be the new go to spot for a lot of Pittsburghers. Be one of the first crews to take advantage of this soon-to-be hot spot downtown!
