It is officially Women’s History month and we are less than a week away from International Women’s Day! March 8th is a day to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination, and take action to drive gender parity. One of our favorite women’s organizations, Women Who Rock, is celebrating this special day with an AWESOME event. On March 8th at the Hard Rock Cafe in Station Square, Women Who Rock is presenting the event, ICON: Dolly Parton

Doors for this event open at 6:30 pm so you’ll have time to mingle before things get started. Upon entry, you will walk down the pink carpet and enjoy some photo ops before heading into the main event space. The evening will include signature cocktails, on theme of course, and plenty of entertainment! Last year’s International Women’s Day event hosted by Women Who Rock featured a delicious strawberry vodka drink sponsored by Tito’s, and was even topped with an edible Women Who Rock logo! So basically what we are saying is that they spare no detail with this rockin’ event.

For this year’s entertainment, the show will kick off at 7:30 pm. Guests will enjoy a live tribute artist, a drag performance by local queen Alora Chateaux, and a party DJ to pump up the jams! The live tribute artist in one word is extraordinary. International Dolly Parton tribute artist, Karen Hester, will be performing as Dolly during the event! Hester is quite the sought-after performer with her incredible depiction both in looks and in performance of the icon herself, Dolly Parton. With a background in acting, theater, and music, Hester will surely be the highlight of the evening.

As the event goes on feel free to check out the Women Who Rock pop-up shop featuring exclusive apparel and accessories! One of our favorite items from the collection is the “I Am Women’s History Tee” perfect for the month of March. During this month only, there is also a limited edition tee that was designed as a collab between Women Who Rock and the Hard Rock Cafe. This shirt commemorates the amazing events held throughout the month, at Hard Rock locations nationwide. All of these events help to shed light on Women Who Rock and their mission. Make sure you stop by their booth to purchase one of these exclusive tees!

Now let’s chat about the mission. Why is this event happening? Why on International Women’s Day? Women Who Rock, as you may have guessed, is a female-founded organization. Their mission is to champion women in music and women’s health. By uniting supporters through music, charity, and education, Women Who Rock aims to make a global impact on women’s health and women in the music industry. One healthcare organization that truly feels the impact of the work that Women Who Rock does is Magee-Womens Research Institute. Local to Pittsburgh, Magee-Womens is one of the world leaders in women’s health. When Women Who Rock hosts benefit events like ICON: Dolly Parton, sells their apparel and accessories, or does anything else, they are making a difference in the world of women’s health.

On top of this event on March 8th, Women Who Rock puts on benefit concerts each year with lineups made up of some of the best ladies in music, locally and nationally. Last year’s Pittsburgh fall benefit concert was headlined by the one and only Jordin Sparks! By highlighting women in music at Hard Rock Cafes and concert venues all over the nation, the importance of women’s rights and health is amplified to a larger audience.

If you’re interested in attending ICON: Dolly Parton, general admission tickets are still available for $20! Head to the Hard Rock’s website to purchase ahead of time. If you aren’t sure yet, you can also purchase tickets at the door for $25 on the day of the event.

If you already have plans, worry not! You can always support Women Who Rock and their mission by sharing their social media posts and visiting their brick-and-mortar pop-up at Southside Works. Across the street from the Aerie store is where you’ll find the Women Who Rock pop-up with their guitars and all. Their staple pieces like their lightning bolt necklaces, hats, tanks, and tees can be found here along with other awesome items created in collaboration with other businesses. Speaking of, nothing says rock and roll like Gibson Guitars. That is why one of the coolest collaborations Women Who Rock has done is with Gibson! Guitar straps, picks, sweatshirts, hats, anything you’d need for a good jam sesh is available in this collection at their shop. Now get out there and support this business, by women for women! Whatever you can do to support this cause is truly appreciated and is sure to make an impact.
