We love a good costume, but we hate spending a ton of money on it, which is why we’re shopping with our friends at Goodwill again this year! (Remember last year’s costume inspiration??) Goodwill’s Halloween Bootiques are back this year, and, dare we say, even better than last year?!
Whether you’re going to a socially distanced party, hanging out on your couch for a zoom party, or just watching Hocus Pocus on repeat, costumes on Halloween are a must. When you shop at Goodwill, you can rest assured that your costume will be totally unique! Because, honestly, we hate it when we all show up wearing the same thing.
One of our favorite things about shopping at Goodwill is knowing we’re giving items a home that could have otherwise ended up in a landfill. We don’t always need to buy brand new items to get high quality clothing or home decor. We have found some amazing deals on things at Goodwill…especially after everyone decluttered at the start of the pandemic (and again recently after watching The Home Edit *coughcough*).
Another bonus about shopping with Goodwill? They are a nonprofit so 90 cents of every dollar goes back into their programs and services. They help members of our community with:
- Education services – like English as a second language and GED prep and testing
- Disability services – like job training and community integration
- Youth services – to help prepare young people to be work-ready and career-focused
- Transition services – to help students with disabilities move from school to post-school life
- Supportive housing – to help individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness transition to permanent housing
- Job search services – in 2019, Goodwill of Southwestern PA placed 582 individuals in unsubsidized employment!
- Reintegration services – to assist individuals who have been in the legal system or are at risk for entering the legal system
- Community services – to meet basic needs, such as food, clothing, and shelter
Many of their in-person programs are currently on hold, but they have adapted as much as they can for virtual programs. They also still offer their weekly discounts, color of the week deals, and 99-cent Sundays (check out all the details here).
The only thing left to do is decide what you’re going to dress up as this year! (Make sure you check last year’s post for Quinn’s professional advice for creating a costume at Goodwill.)
