Pittsburgh’s North Hills area is bustling with new restaurants with all types of cuisines. From extraordinary dumplings to elevated American bites and craft beers, there’s plenty to enjoy on your next outing.
Warning: this article may make you hungry right away!
Voodoo Brewing Co.
As the third location of Voodoo Brewing Co. in Pittsburgh, the new Seven Fields location has all the same great beers, food and vibes as the other ones in the North Shore and New Kensington. Sip on fresh new beers on tap, frozen summer cocktails and more seasonal drinks like the watermelon gin sour and blackberry pear mojito. Find over 20 beers on tap to stay cool this season.
Also, don’t miss out on the occasional live music performances! Check out their Instagram and Facebook pages for details.
Wexford Public
There’s no sign of slowing down for the brand-new Wexford Public off Perry Highway and Wallace. Owned by a local husband and wife duo, they wanted to open an unassuming restaurant that works for everyone — whether you want a snack and glass of wine or you’re looking for somewhere to take the whole family after the kids’ games. Co-owner John Dober has also been in the Pittsburgh dining scene for over 20 years.
Not only has the establishment and outdoor patio space gained quick popularity, the restaurant also added weekend brunch and updated their dinner menu. The menu shows a long list of shareable apps, protein-packed entrees, and wholesome salads and sandwiches. The littles have a menu for themselves! All while the adults can dive into big portions and pair a glass of wine, bourbon or a cocktail with their meal. The new Cubano Flatbread already has my name all over it!
Tapville Social
While this Tapville location isn’t exactly new, the ownership is, and they’ve got a lot to offer. From Tuesdays – Fridays (4pm – 6pm), the restaurant offers half-off drinks from their giant tapwall. From PA craft beers to ciders, NA drinks, and a couple of wines and sangria too, the wall boasts over 40 selections.
The wall is self-serve, so pour each drink yourself. This is the best way to do tastings of a variety of drinks, and find ones that you really like! On Tuesdays, drinks from the tapwall are half-off all day! Tapville also features a new weekend brunch menu from Fridays to Sundays.
Wei Lai
Hungry for dim sum? Newly opened in McIntyre Square, Wei Lai serves up authentic Cantonese food, plus more Chinese and Taiwanese dishes. Enjoy a variety of handmade dumplings, including a savory soup dumpling. If you’re there on a weekend, look for the specials. They’re on a first come, first serve basis. Be warned: the duck roast platter sells out quickly!
Wei Lai has an inviting atmosphere for groups, so bring your crew with you. Pro-tip: order a variety of plates to share at the table, and enjoy a taste of it all! (Dining solo totally rocks too. These portions are generous, though!)
Hong Hot Pot
For an ultimate foodie experience, visit Hong Hot Pot. The chain restaurant opened its first Pittsburgh location off McKnight Road and offers endless Chinese hot pot and Korean-style barbecue. While there’s a two-hour time limit per table, food comes out quickly and is ready for diners to start cooking.
Choose from a variety of meats, including pork belly, short ribs and beef bulgogi, plus seafood, veggies and soybean items. Not sure how to use the cooking devices? Not to fret, as the wait staff will be happy to teach you! To cap off your meal, try one of the 14 boba tea varieties.
Dough Daddy Brewery
Dough Daddy Brewery is one of the newest finds in Gibsonia and the North Hills. The space features an approachable taproom with 13 refreshing beers on the draft list, including the signature Hazy Dough Dazy IPA, plus an in-house rotational cocktail named the Dough Mommy Raspberry Seltzer.
Don’t miss out on shareable grub for your crew, like the one-pound soft pretzel and Sicilian-style pizza. Check out their Facebook and Instagram for weekend live music details and trivia nights. The female-owned bar is also expanding the space outside to add a patio, which would be a perfect hangout spot this fall!
