If you’ve grown up with Pixar films, you already know and love characters like Woody and Buzz, Mike and Sulley, Nemo and Dory. But have you ever wondered how Pixar was able to bring those characters to life?
The Science Behind Pixar
Visit The Science Behind Pixar exhibition at Carnegie Science Center now through January 5th, 2025, and you’ll be able to dive into the minds of the artists and computer scientists behind Pixar’s award-winning films.
The two-story, 12,000-square-foot exhibition takes you behind the scenes of all that Pixar magic. With over 50 interactive and hands-on STEM displays, you’ll learn how technology, storytelling, and creativity come together to create iconic movies like Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and more.
Create robots with magnets (WALL-E), control tilting cameras to form a variety of perspectives (A Bug’s Life), adjust lights to change the mood of a scene (Up). The hands-on displays will excite and engage you as you discover how Pixar is able to transform scenes with minor changes.
For a dose of added fun, you’ll also encounter life size re-creations of Pixar characters like Buzz Lightyear, Mike and Sulley, Nemo, and Wall-E throughout the exhibit. AKA selfie photo op, anyone?
More Fun at the Science Center
There’s even more Pixar fun beyond the exhibition space. In the Miniature Railroad & Village, look and find miniature Pixar figures! On the USS Requin, search and find Nemo hidden throughout the submarine.
Carnegie Science Center is also having a weekly “Buzz Around the Burgh Contest” through November 16th. Check out their Instagram for the latest photo of Buzz at a Pittsburgh landmark. If you can correctly identify the location (and follow a few other rules), you’ll have a chance to win tickets to The Science Behind Pixar exhibition.
And the fun doesn’t stop there. There’s a reason why Carnegie Science Center is Pittsburgh’s most-visited museum. There’s always something fun and visit-worthy to check out! Attend the electrifying Geek Out Gala, a family-friendly Halloween Hunt, a Halloween Laser show, a Laser Holiday Magic show, an upcoming 21+ Night, and even a Laser Taylor Swift show.
