A video on Pittsburgh Dentist’s website tells the story of a patient named Chuck.
“Before I met Dr. George, I had ground my teeth off to the point that I wouldn’t even smile,” said Chuck. “I would try to talk with my mouth closed so that people couldn’t see how terribly my teeth were worn down.”
Other dentists told Chuck that there was nothing they could do.
“But when I came [to Pittsburgh Dentist] they had answers,” he said. “They had a plan.”

That plan involved porcelain veneers which are thin, custom-made porcelain shells designed to cover the front surface of the patient’s teeth.
“Now, I can laugh, I can smile, all because of Dr. George,” said Chuck.

Dr. Alexandra George at Pittsburgh Dental
Dr. Alexandra George has been restoring smiles like Chuck’s for over 30 years. Her Wexford office is intentionally designed with a spa-like feel and is equipped with the latest technology.

Cosmetic and Functional For Each Unique Smile
“Over the past 30 years, I’ve completed a lot of continuing training and education and have kept up on the newest and improved products and technology,” said Dr. George. “In my office, we use high-end porcelain to fabricate veneers and porcelain crowns and also make sure that patients can function with their new teeth. Veneers are a big investment and it’s important to protect that investment by making sure that the bite is a good position. It’s one of the things that sets my practice apart from others – keeping both cosmetics and function as the top priority.”
When asked what the biggest myth about cosmetic dentistry is, Dr. George responded, “that it’s all about vanity and only for people who want to make their smile ‘perfect.’ In reality, cosmetic dentistry can have functional benefits, too. Every day, I’m treating patients with veneers or crowns to restore teeth that are damaged or worn down, improving both appearance and function.”

If you‘ve wondered if veneers are just for celebrities or if they can be a realistic option for the average Pittsburgher, Dr. George said, “It’s always exciting to design a celebrity’s smile, but I feel veneers are a realistic option for any Pittsburgher who wants to invest in themselves and have that beautiful smile that they’ve always imagined. The great thing is that every case is unique to each patient. It doesn’t have to be the super white ‘Hollywood’ smile.”
Caring For Your Teeth
At home, caring for your teeth starts with a simple daily routine.
“Brushing and flossing goes a long way,” said Dr. George. “I always suggest using an electric toothbrush and a Waterpik as well as keeping up with your dental cleanings.”
