It’s so hard to believe that we are nearly on the edge of Spring (especially with all of this winter weather madness we have endured this season). The temperatures will rise, along with flowers and leaves that will be in bloom.
One of the holidays that kick-starts the Spring season is that of St. Patrick’s Day. For the kids, it’s a day of finding hidden treasures; for the adults, it’s a celebration of day-drinking their favorite beer.
If you are like me and wanting to find a happy medium among-st the two, why not venture to Piper’s Pub in the South Side. Located in the heart of East Carson Street, Piper’s Pub is commonly mistaken as full-bred Irish pub, when it tends to focus entirely on it’s British heritage (I will make no comment on the history of the British and Irish).
There is a blend of English-Irish-Scottish traditional bites, of course with an All-American flare. Guests are immediately shown the bar upon entering and if you happen to be an aficionado when it comes to your whisky, then be sure to have a seat and prepare yourself – Piper’s has over 180 single-malt Scotch whisky varieties.
Okay, so by this point in the article I am sure you are dying to have some food? Well, at Piper’s, you are for sure not going to go hungry, and that is for sure. For starters, their take on the traditional American version of chicken and waffles has been substituted for “sausage” and waffles (a brunch favorite). But if you are looking for true European cuisine, do try the Fish and Chips (said to be one of the very best in town), of even the Shepherd’s Pie.
If you really want to indulge yourself, why not aim for the Bangers and Mash, which if you are not familiar is an assortment of sausages over mashed potatoes. If that isn’t enough, head to Piper’s Pub on a Sunday, where from 3pm until it is sold out, guests can relish in “fresh roast beef, brandied pan gravy, whipped potatoes, brussels with bacon and Yorkshire pudding”.
Sounds delicious, right? So if you are in a mood to not fight with your drunk neighbors, head to Piper’s Pub for an appetizing way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
