The third annual Women’s March will hit the streets of downtown Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 19th. The march begins at Grant Street at 11:30am, ends at Market Square at 12:30pm, and features speakers and more.
The organizers of the Pittsburgh march are using the theme — “Building Bridges Stronger Than Hate” saying, “we build those bridges in part by demanding that women, all women, have the resources they need to live safe and healthy lives in every corner of every community of our city and region.”
The Women’s March began in 2017, when 5 million people came together for a peaceful protest around the world, leading to the largest coordinated protest in US history. Like the past two years, the march will be held in different cities throughout the country. This year’s theme is #WomensWave, referring to the record number of victories in last year’s midterm election, where more than 100 women were elected to Congress.
As stated on the Women’s March twitter, @womensmarch, the agenda deals with “ending state violence, ending violence against women and femmes, reproductive rights and justice, racial justice, LGBTQIA and Rights, immigrant rights, economic justice and workers rights, civil rights and liberties, disability rights, environmental justice.” You can use the hashtag #WomensWave to connect on social media.
According to the Pittsburgh organizers, the march will help to “show the city, nation, and world that Pittsburgh is a city full of champions that are committed to ‘Building Bridges Stronger Than Hate.’ The women of Pittsburgh and our allies will stand together to say that only through the work of our hands can we push back the tide of sexism, racism, hate, the war on democracy and reproductive health that has risen in our country and our world.” Use the hashtag #BridgesStrongerThanHatePGH when posting pics of the event!
