Grist House beer

The Grist House Craft Brewery is expanding! The popular Millvale brewery recently purchased a 55,000 square foot building in Collier Township. The unique thing about the building? The historic site used to be a Missile Command Center during the Cold War! The building was built in 1957 and had Missile Master capabilities in 1960. Pretty crazy, right?! There’s definitely all kinds of cool history to the building, and the Grist House plans to reveal more about it in future posts.

All kinds of cool stuff are in store for the new brewery location, which will feature a large tap room, retail space, and an extensive barrel aging program. The brewery is especially excited about the barrel aging program. The unique location is a very large space, and they plan to fill that space with a lot of barrels. Lots and lots of barrels! They have already begun placing barrels in the building, which will make for some awesome aged beer when the place opens.

The new site also plans to have a nice outdoor area to enjoy your drinks. The location is situated on one of the highest points in Allegheny County, allowing for a sweet view, where you’ll be able to see the city of Pittsburgh!

The Grist House has been brewing seasonal, locally made craft beer since 2014. The new location will become their main production facility. So what happens to the brewery in Millvale? Don’t worry, because the location will still be there, operating as their home in the city.

The project is said to be a long one, and Grist House hasn’t announced a timeline just yet. You can follow Grist House on their Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to keep updated!
