New York has Rockefeller Center, London has Piccadilly Circus.  For Pittsburgh, we have Market Square, an accoutrement of shops and restaurants all within a small square radius in the center of Downtown.

Here is where the holidays in the city come alive, with the annual Christmas Tree lighting at PPG Place; however, it is the annual Holiday Market, hosted by Peoples Gas, that draw citizens and visitors from all over into downtown during the Holiday season.

Guests of the market have the chance to experience 26 full-time vendors (that will be set-up for the duration of the market), with 8 visiting vendors interchanging throughout the scheduled time slot.

But let’s not forget – this isn’t your traditional holiday market.  The market is made up of dozens of wooden chalets, made to resemble a European marketplace.  Vendors ranging from candles from 837 North, European inspired artwork from European Folk Art, to pottery from Pittsburgh Pottery.

Not to worry, shopping isn’t the only thing that will be occurring at the market – live entertainment will be held daily as guests shop amongst the chalets.  And if you are feeling rather adventurous, be sure to enter the karaoke contest, for the chance to win a cash prize for their efforts.

And let’s not forget good old Saint Nicholas, a.k.a. Santa Claus.  He will be stopping by the market to check in on all the good boys and girls.  But please note, parents – Santa’s hours are different from the markets.

But be sure to visit soon – the market’s last day will be on Sunday, December 23rd, 2018!
