On Friday, Pittsburgh lost a truly one-of-a-kind soul. Musician and Producer Mac Miller, known to many in our community as Malcolm, passed away at his home in California at the age of 26.
McCormick was raised in Point Breeze and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in 2010, from where he went on to become a household name in R&B, hip hop, and eventually the music industry overall. His most recent album, Swimming, released only a month ago, debuted at #3 on both the Billboard 200 and R&B/hip-hop charts. However, the album that first gained him national notoriety was released in 2011 and entitled “Blue Slide Park,” giving a nod to the playground on the south end of Frick Park that most locals know by the same name. There was no more appropriate place to gather in his memory.
Last night, thousands of fans, friends, and family from all over the Tri-State area and beyond gathered at Blue Slide Park to remember and celebrate the life and music of Mac Miller. He will be sorely missed.
