Everyone knows the Pittsburgh food scene is booming. New (delicious) restaurants are popping up everywhere and some are getting national attention. But the food scene here is so much more than restaurants. It also includes the local food shops, which sometimes don’t get the attention they deserve. That’s why we visited Chantal’s Cheese Shop.

Chantal's Cheese Shop on Penn Avenue in the Strip District

Located on Penn Avenue, Chantal’s Cheese Shop opened up in March. They stock more cheese than you could hope to try in one sitting (maybe that could be a new food challenge??) plus everything to go with it. From charcuterie to mustards and spreads to crackers and desserts, it’s a one-stop picnic.

If you’re worried about your lack-of-cheese knowledge, don’t be. Anaïs and her husband Chris are happy to guide you through the cheese case to help you pick out your new favorites. They’ll even cut as much or as little as you want. Because who doesn’t love a fresh cheese or three with a glass of wine or cider?

Chantal's Cheese Shop's Owner Anaïs

Chantal’s Cheese Shop is all about creating the experience when you eat their cheeses, whether it’s a giant “cake” made entirely of cheese (seriously, check out their Instagram!) or grabbing a small piece to snack on while you wait to meet a friend. That’s why we worked with them to create the easiest three-ingredient crostini recipe ever. For real. If you can open a jar and cut cheese, you can make this crostini. And – bonus – they stock all three ingredients so you only have to go to one store.

Crostini Recipe Contest - Tait Farm's Mango Habanero Mustard, Comte Cheese

You only have one decision to make: do you want to slice and toast a baguette, or do you want to open a package of baguette crisps? Once you determine that, all you have to do is open a jar of Tait Farm’s Mango Habanero Mustard, which is not as spicy as it sounds. Spread some on the baguette, and top it with an amazingly creamy and delicious comte cheese. And, another bonus? Comte has so many different flavors in it that it will pair with literally anything you’re drinking.

If the photos weren’t enticing enough, Chantal’s Cheese Shop is giving away a gift basket worth $45 to one lucky Made in PGH reader! All you have to do to enter is:

  • Make the crostini
  • Follow Made in PGH & Chantal’s Cheese Shop on Instagram
  • Tag it on social media using #MadeInPghRecipe and #ChantalsCheeseShop

The winner will be randomly selected on Thursday, September 20th. Good luck and happy snacking!
