Is there anything better than walking through the doors of your favorite Pittsburgh bakery and taking in the aroma of warm, freshly baked bread and sweet pastries? We vote no. The Pittsburgh bakery scene is and always has been booming. There is something about walking into a local bakery that releases our inner child – the anticipation of putting a fresh baked good to your taste buds is so exciting we can’t help but feel giddy.

1. Potomac Bakery

Potomac Bakery has been dishing out some of the best pastries we have ever tasted since 1927.  Family owned and operated, this classic bakery will have anyone smiling after tasting their famous frosted covered brownies, or their decadent white icing covered cinnamon rolls. Trust us when we tell you, if you haven’t been here, get here!  You can find Potomac Bakery in Dormont or Mount Lebanon in the South Hills, and it’s worth the trip.

This is not your average bakery.  This award winning, delicious destination is one of America’s largest retail bakeries, and one of  Pittsburgh’s local favorites.  Pick up a quick sweet treat for yourself, some bagels for the office, or stick around to get some work done while enjoying a fresh meal in their cozy cafe. The list of reasons to visit Oakmont is endless, but you’ll have to go see for yourself!  (prepare to be overwhelmed in the best way possible)

5. Five Points Bakery

Five Points Bakery is a local Artisan bakeshop, which understands the importance of using high quality and local ingredients (this means we can enjoy as much as we want, right?). Here is where you’ll find an assortment of freshly baked breads and pastries all baked with some serious love. It takes more than 20 hours to create their delicious, one of kind breads making sure each loaf is made perfectly.

6. Gluuteny Bakery

This award winning bakery is dedicated to making sure their customers who have specific allergies can still indulge in their favorite sweet treats. At Gluuteny, you can enjoy delicious, gluten free and dairy free treats of all kinds.  Vegan? Don’t fret, they have you covered, too!  What we absolutely love about Gluuteny is the fact that you can take home their dry ingredient mix and bake a delicious goodie for yourself.  Now that is fun!!

7. The Butterwood Bake Consortium

The atmosphere here is as unique as the cakes they offer at The Butterwood Bake Consortium (seriously, we are obsessed). Come here to grab a slice of cake or pie, or have an entire cake custom made for your next celebration.  These beautiful masterpieces are baked with organic and local ingredients, as well as decorated with real flowers and greenery. Late night craving? Perfect, they are open till 11pm Monday through Saturday, and 9pm Sunday!

8. Madeleine Bakery and Bistro

Madeleine Bakery and Bistro could be considered the new kid on the block. But everything they have to offer is nothing short of impressive.  Their elegant atmosphere will pull you in, but their baked goods and seasonal eats will make you stay, and maybe never leave. Grab a cappuccino and take a seat because you’ll definitely want to stick around.

9. Prantls Bakery

If you haven’t enjoyed Prantls famous Burnt Almond Torte, we feel sorry for you. This is one of the most classic tastes of the Burgh. Pick one up in one of their locations along with many other classic “sinful sweets” Prantls has to offer. Even if you’re not in Pittsburgh, you are in serious luck. You can have the Burnt Almond Torte shipped anywhere in country.

10. Gluten Free Goat Bakery & Cafe

If you keep up on our content, you’re already pretty familiar with this spot. For anyone with celiac disease or who choosees to be gluten free/vegan, we found your local utopia.  Here, anyone can enjoy soy free, dairy free, gluten free and vegan meals and baked goods.  If you’re not cautious of these ingredients or allergies we promise: you will still love everything they have to offer. Go enjoy local and seasonal ingredients and the awesome vibe this place gives off. They even Cater! (Score!)

11. Patti’s Pasticceria

When we think Italian pastries, we think ‘Cannoli’ – and we love a good cannoli.  If you do too, then you need to get to Patti’s Pasticceria.  Their family recipe is nearly a century old and the taste is unforgettable! And guess what, they cater!
